Why do we need to do both? Because if we just reduce the body fat and don't do any strength training - there could be just loose skin. Therefore we need to include weighted exercises to build up the muscle underneath. And NO girls - Weight training will NOT make you bulky! This couldn't be further from the truth!
Strength training helps you shape your body. You want a killer butt? Well I can tell you right now you will not get that booty from body weight squats or from running on the treadmill. You get that butt from squatting, deadlifts and lunges etc with WEIGHTS (And I'm not talking 2kg weights either)
Want nice strong toned arms? Press Ups, Rows, Chest Press, Chins, Dips etc. Combine these exercises with some cardio or high intensity exercises and voila! Toned! Those body building women you see that you are afraid of turning into spend hours at the gym and work very very hard with specific nutrition to get like that. Women do not have the testosterone to build muscle like men, so don't be afraid to hit the heavy weights.
